A short history of dancing

However far one goes back in time, man has expressed his emotions by singing, music and dancing. Originally, music and dancing were closely linked to religion for almost all peoples. As long as the hunter gatherer man was unable to tame the strong forces of nature, he spent all his energy in the struggle for survival and the battle against famine. The hunting and killing experience was thus represented on cave walls and by the sounds of bone flutes. While dancing a simulated fight with animals, music played a liberating and entrancing role.


Music and dancing have thus played an important role in the life of man since time immemorial. However, their significance has changed. For prehistoric people, music was part of religious rituals. Nowadays, dancing is above all a magnificent way of human expression. It has played a truly important role in the evolution of man. It is the most natural of human activities. Dancing has many advantages. It makes you happy and it relaxes, the body is stimulated in a playful and pleasant way and it positively influences the mind. Dancing makes the body supple, agile and improves its physical condition. It also stimulates memory and teaches respect for others and how to collaborate. The dancer exercises his muscles, stimulates the cardiovascular system and improves his body coordination.


As far as we are concerned, ballroom dancing is also an activity that encourages an upright posture, and whatever one’s age, provides vigorous exercise for the body while creating a great feeling of well being.
